Therapeutic Photography & Mindfulness Courses

Vicki was awarded a Teignbridge Arts Project grant to run two courses in conjunction with Teignmouth HealthscapeCIC and Kingscare, a charity based in Kingsteignton working with carers. The project encouraged discussion and exploration of the self in a safe and supportive environment while teaching all aspects of mindfulness alongside. Each course was open to 10 participants. The courses ran over 7 weeks with 1.5 hours each week and culminated in two small exhibitions at Stover Country Park and Teignmouth Library. The Teignmouth course was held at Bitton Park House and Kingscare in the Roundhouse at Stover Country Park. The Kingscare course was oversubscribed with no advertising and the Teignmouth course filled by the start date. Feedback from these courses was overwhelmingly positive with every participant saying the course had a positive affect on their mental health.

Feedback from the course... I enjoyed the photography as it helped me to talk, I would find it very hard otherwise, and it helped me to engage with others in the group. Off the mindfulness I found hearing others experience very useful. I have studied Buddhism and its wisdom has helped me for many years to live more peacefully but anxiety has gripped me in recent years and hearing others share their experience and working to apply practical ways of living mindfully has been very helpful. The reminders from Vicki that small moments each day can be all it takes to train you on to a healthier path were super. I also valued greatly the scientific research elements of the information, this helped to give me confidence in communicating the value of mindfulness to others.

Feedback from the course... I've learnt so much from this course and will continue to practise what I've learnt, it's made a real difference to me and my thoughts and awareness of them. Thank you.

Feedback from the course... I haven’t come across anything like this before. All credit to Vicki for the work she has done in setting this up for the benefit of others. I’m sure we have all gained something from attending this course and have knowledge and tips and aids to carry forward what we have learned and practise them in our daily lives. The most important reminder for me is that we are not our thoughts and it is important to create that space so we don’t get lost in them. A lifetime’s practice, not a quick fix, but probably essential for our mental health in this frantic modern world. Grateful thanks, Vicki
